February Release Watch: Week 2

After a slow start of 2020 things picked up speed quickly during the first week of February. It’s hard to argue with the statement that Nike was on a hot streak. Just during the 1st week, you could try your luck with insane StrangeLove x Nike SB Dunk Low with crazy fluffy velvet and suede execution and numerous nice details from the legendary illustrator Sean Cliver and Todd Bratrud.

Another high regarder drop was Air Jordan 1 Hi ’85 in the very original high cut design and colorway of the actual pair that Michale Jordan wore on the court when the model was first introduced in 1985. Only 23,000 pairs were made – yes that is considered highly limited – and each pair was numbered.

This were also the first-ever retro of one of the more celebrated Dunks of the 2000s – the “Plum” Dunk Low from 2001’s “Ugly Duckling” – hunted by OG dunk collectors for almost 2 decades.

For the February adidas kept it low key with their 2nd ever colorway of brand new adidas Yeezy 700 v3 “Alvah”. This all-black model was released as a region exclusive and pretty limited – that was also reflected in secondary market prices. This month was also interesting for ZX runner series fans, continuing the push of this silhouette from January.  Two colorways of ZX 10,000C released and so did the pack of 3paris of ZX 8000 “Lethal Nights” with 3 iterations of popular mode in extravagant snakeskin uppers.

What to look forward to in the second half of the month? Nike is not slowing down and much anticipated Off-White x Air Jordan 5 is set to release on February 15. This unique interpretation from one and only Virgil Abloh is inspired by the Black Metallic colorway of the same silhouette that was Virgil’s childhood most coveted pair and that he had displayed in his room for many years. His interpretation features unique partially translucent materials on the construction, multiple circular sections marked to be cut out and his signature zip tie in the black color is not missing as well.

As every year, Jordan Brand is releasing multiple collections to commemorate the NBA Allstar Week  – the most hyped being the New Beginnings Pack – set of 2 pairs: Nike Air Ship pair that MJ wore when he first signed his Nike deal (releasing for the first time since then) and matching pair of AJ 1 High OG in brand new white and red execution. Although is not known how this pack will release, special pair of the Air Force 1 “City Of Dreams” will be available.

For adidas the rest of the month is mostly about Yeezys. Teased for a long time, three stripes together with Kanye are finally releasing the 700 V2 MVMNT (rumored to drop adidas instore only). An updated version of the popular 700 runner is ditching the multilayered upper for the bold script and monotone color palette.

Highly rumored is also the regional exclusive release of the very first 350 v2 of 2020. It is expected that European retailers will stock the “Tail Lights” version – tonal grey colorway with contrasting high visible orange heel tab will definitely sell out fast, so watch this space and our social media channels for updates on the pre-release info.
